You did a great job of explaining how you value class discussions and how DIDLS has come into use in your readings. It would be beneficial to describe what exactly about your group as well as class discussions has aided your greater and deeper understanding of the novel. How did the fashion that the discussion were carried out affect your perception of the novel? Did getting a multitude of ideas not overwhelm you with irrelevant details? How did your individual interpretation of the novel compare with that of your classmates? With regards to DOS, what are your expectations from your first read and how do they stand with respect to it being in the form of a movie?
I agree completely with what you said about the big and small groups! I felt way more comfortable bringing up my opinions in small groups (I hardly talk at all during the group discussions). I like hearing everyones point though, but I wonder if we could figure out a better system so that everyone isn't talking just to the people next to them. I also think it's cool that our first read was watching the movie. Now whenever I picture the characters in the play, I imagine the actors/actresses in the movie! I also look forward to discussing the play more in class.
I really liked watching Death of a Salesman for our first read. In The American Dream, there is no plot whatsoever, and characterization is loose, but Death of a Salesman is a real play that can be performed, and we watched a fantastic version. I definitely agree with you about the benefits of small vs large group, and I also missed most of what happened in the American Dream the first read through.
